KR Market Portraits

I have always loved to shoot in the markets here in Bangalore. Each of the markets have a particular characteristic of its own and I have loved to shoot in the Madiwala Market and the K R Market the most. The beauty about the K R Market is that there is a lot of action happening. There is a lot of things going on, which in turn implies that there are a lot of photo-opportunities.
For this shoot, I shot mostly with my Nikon D300 and 50mm Lens. I like to …

Of Workshops and Travel

I love to conduct workshops and have been fortunate to conduct that across the country at different colleges. Over the past few months, I have roamed across India. From Karnataka to Kerela to Tamil Nadu to Goa and now onto Gujarat. I love to travel and am glad that I get to do this for the thing I am most passionate about.
The hit so far has been the ‘Light Painting Workshop’ and I am really glad that the participants like it. Their feedback after the workshops has been very positive …

Workshop at Engineer 2009, NITK Surathkal

I have always been excited about visiting a college where my friends studied. So far all the colleges I have conducted my workshops, have been places where a person I know, (mostly from my friends) have studied. NIT Surathkal was no different. I was pretty excited about this one.

The Machine Maketh The Man

Royal Enfield was the brand of the Enfield Cycle Company, a British engineering company. Notable for producing motorcycles, it also produced bicycles, lawnmowers, stationary engines, and even rifle parts for the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield Lock. This legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto “Made like a gun, goes like a bullet”. It also enabled the use of the brand name Royal Enfield from 1890. In 1955 Enfield of India started assembling Bullet motorcycles under licence from UK components, and by …

Nostalgic New York

New York has to be one of the most interesting cities that I have visited so far. It has a character in itself. I had heard a lot about the city and had been wanting to visit it since a long time. In the summer of 2008, I had a chance to visit it during the Independence Day weekend.
The view from atop the Empire State Building is breathtaking. With cars the size of ants, and the concrete jungle below, you begin to get a sense of flying. The Hudson river …

Lessons from the Highway

Every day I go out to shoot, I am amazed by the things that I see. It is in these things that I see a message being conveyed to me. I let my photographs convey those messages that people would otherwise not notice. The messages are sometimes philosophical, sometimes spiritual, and some times just cryptic, that it takes you time to understand. I am often mesmerized by the graphics on the trucks and lorries here in India. They are inspirational, have a hidden message and is totally worth the extra …
